AlienVault to Contribute Data at Inaugural SAIC’s Apps for Security Hackathon
Creator of OSSIM joins Facebook, ThreatGrid, Department of Homeland Security to encourage open innovation and security in cyberspace
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–AlienVault, creator of OSSIM, the de facto standard open source SIEM (Security Information and Event Management), announced their participation as a data source provider at the first-ever Apps for Security community event on Thursday, March 22 at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View, Calif. Apps for Security is an open event organized by SAIC and SINET that encourages individuals and organizations to collaborate on applications, promoting civic engagement, open innovation, and entrepreneurship while making cyberspace more safe and secure.
AlienVault will contribute data from the AlienVault Open Threat Exchange™ (AV-OTX™), a system for sharing threat intelligence among OSSIM users and AlienVault customers. AV-OTX™ automatically cleanses and collects threat data from a broad variety of security devices including firewalls, proxy servers, web servers, anti-virus systems, intrusion detection and prevention systems, among others, and feeds the latest threat intelligence back into participating OSSIM deployments.
“It’s exciting to be a part of the first Apps for Security community event,” said Dominique Karg, Co-Founder of AlienVault. “This event is a true testament to AlienVault’s overall mission that information should be widely available and shared among the community to harvest intelligence for the common good.”
The data from AV-OTX is continuously reviewed and validated by the AlienVault Research Lab to ensure that only the most accurate and actionable intelligence is published. With AV-OTX™, an attack on any member of the community alerts and arms the entire community with timely intelligence required to better manage a similar attack.
