There has been a new wave of cyber-attacks that combines distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks and extortion.

Cybercrime groups are targeting various organizations all over the world by threatening to launch DDoS attacks against them unless they pay thousands of dollars in Bitcoin.

Companies targeted by these malicious actors face the agonizing decision to comply with the ransom request or risk lost revenue, downtime, and reputational damage. Even if organizations consider paying the ransom, there is no guarantee that the attacks would cease; a quick payday may even encourage them to strike again or target other companies as well.
